Overview
Thornhill sits just north of Steeles Avenue, the boundary between Toronto and York Region. It isn't a municipality on its own: the part west of Yonge is in Vaughan and the part east is in Markham, which affects property tax rates and city services.
It's popular with families who want established neighbourhoods and quick access to Toronto without the city's municipal land transfer tax.
Lifestyle
Mature trees, ravines and parks, with shopping at Promenade and along Yonge. Community centres and places of worship serve a diverse population.
Housing
The historic village area near Yonge and Centre has some of the oldest homes in the region. Much of the rest is detached and semi-detached homes from the 1970s to the 1990s, with newer condos and townhouses along Yonge, Bathurst and Centre Street.
